Subject/Title of Window: Immaculate Conception
Brief Description of Subject: Description: Each sacristy window contains symbols of the important days celebrated throughout the Liturgical year which starts with Advent. This is the second window in that series, the "Immaculate Conception" which is celebrated on December 8th. The Immaculate Conception celebrates the Virgin Mary being born without the original sin of Adam. It is not covered in the Bible hence depictions of the event are left to the artist's imagination. The Catholic Faith has identified Mary with the woman in Rev.12:1 -- the woman was clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head. Scenes or symbols of the Immaculate Conception, like here, are usually pictured using this text. Seen in this window is a crescent moon under the lily with rays of the sun at the top of the lily plant. The lily plant symbolizes her purity. It is possible that the object wrapped around a circular light inside the crescent moon is a snake that tempted Adam in the Garden of Eden.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
