Building Notes: Niekerk Christian Reformed Church, which is located at 545 Country Club Road Holland Michigan, was established in 1866. It was the 2nd Christian Reformed church in the area. In that era, most building were constructed using all wood, and Niekerk was no exception. It was a very basic functional design, with no frills and no stained glass use of any kind. In 1957, a problem in the heating system caused a fire, which totally destroyed the facility.

After much sole searching, the congregation decided to rebuild on the same site. This became an urgent desire to complete a new worship facility as soon as possible. There was not a lot of new or innovative models available to follow, so the current structure was erected as a basic economical design of the mid fifties style. Stained glass windows were incorporated as part of the functional windows in the auditorium and balcony.
