Building Notes: CARVING ABOVE ALTAR 
The carving was made by Alias Lang, 1872-1954. He was born in Oberammergau, Bavaria. He came to the U.S. in 1890 at the age of 19. He went to Boston where he worked as a carver in homes in Back Bay area. In 1903 he went to Manitowoc, Wisconsin to work for the American Seating Co. He moved to Grand Rapids in 1927 when the company relocated there. His carving is taken from work by Bertel Thorvaldsen 1770-1844 entitled Christus. Matthew 11:28 "Come unto me". It was installed in 1938 when the sanctuary was remodeled during Pastor Schmale's ministry.
