Brief Description of Subject: Peter is holding a set of keys which also appear below him. (the keys cross to form the Greek letter x which is an abbreviation for Christ) The keys represent the keys of to the kingdom of heaven.(Matt. 16:19) The inverted cross that is displayed symbolizes the death of Peter. (Crucified upside down due to they did not feel he was worthy of being crucified the normal way).
