Brief Description of Subject: James is holding the Fuller’s club which is a symbol of his martyrdom. In the background is a windmill which is symbolic of his withstanding and making use of the winds of persecution while staying in Jerusalem. Below him is a saw. It has been said that he was sawn asunder after being clubbed to death.
