Brief Description of Subject: Matthew holds a book which represents his gospel and a money bad which represents his old path of a tax gatherer. In the background is a quill, ink pot and the cross which are symbols of writing the Gospel as well as a winged man symbolizing Matthew’s gospel. On the bottom is a battle ax depicting the weapon in which was used to behead Matthew after being crucified in Ethiopia.
