Brief Description of Subject: James is wearing a hat, holding a staff and gourd and on his tunic are escallop shells which represent symbols of pilgrimage. In the background the escallop shell is dripping water which is a symbol of baptism and the sword is a symbol of his martyrdom. Beneath him is a wallet which is another symbol of pilgrims.
