Subject/Title of Window: Methodist Reform
Brief Description of Subject: The eight south windows represent the development of Protestantism, with emphasis on the Methodist Church and Methodist higher education at Adrian College Nicholas Snethen and Dennis B. Dorsey, leaders of the Methodist Protestant movement, are dominant figures. Top left corner: gavel, symbol of democracy, and Bishop’s Mitre. Right: “Mutual Rights,” early publication of these reformers. Dorsey holds other journal, “Mutual Rights and Christian Intelligence.” Gathered around Snethen (clockwise) are George Brown, Dorsey, John B. Reese, and Asa Shinn, all prominent in Methodist movement. Nicholas Snethen and Dennis B. Dorsey, leaders of the Methodist Protestan movement, are the dominant figures. At the top left corner, in medallion shape, is the gavel, symbol of democracy, and below this is the Bisho’s Mitre. At the right is an accurate representation of Mutual Rights, the early publication of these reformers. The other journal, Mutual Rights and Christian Intelligencer, is held by D.B. Dorsey. Gathered around Snethen (reading clockwise) are stylized figures of George Brown, D.B. Dorsey, John B. Reese, and Asa Shinn. All were prominent in the new movement, although no more devoted and determined than many others. The visages of these leaders are from photographs of the time.
