Subject/Title of Window: The Right to Dissent

Brief Description of Subject: The eight north windows represent the deveopment of Christian beliefs and the Christian church prior to the Reformation. Central figure is John Wycliffe (?-1384 A.D.), Archbishop of Canterbury, teacher, dissenter, sending out the Lollards. Upper: chalice, grapes and wafers symbolize his dissent against Church’s teaching about Lord’s Supper; Lower: open Bible with broken chains symbolize Bible he caused to have translated for the people The central figureis John Wycliffe (?-1384 A.D.) Archbishop of Canterbury, teacher, dissenter. He standssending out the Lollards. At the upper part of the window is a chalice, the grapes and wafers, symbolizing his dissent against The Church’s teaching about The Lord’s Supper.
