Building Name: First United Methodist Church of NorthvilleCity: Northville
Window Shape: 3 (arched)
Date of Window: 1947
Subject/Title of Window: Cross and Crown/Good Shepherd/Lamb of God in Revelation
Brief Description of Subject: This stained glass window, arched with three medallions, is set in a transparent window along the south side of the Church. It was transferred to its current location from the old First United Methodist Church of Northville in 1977, and installed by Charlie George of this Church.
Top Medallion: Cross and Crown symbolizes the reward in heaven (crown) that awaits those that bear the trials and tribulations (cross) of this world. This comes from James 1:12 (NIV), "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."
Center Medallion: The Good Shepherd. In John 10:11 (NIV) Jesus uses the relationships of a shepherd to his flock as a metaphor for his relationships to mankind --- "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." Just as the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep, Jesus will lay down his life for our salvation.
Bottom Medallion: Lamb of God in Revelation. Pictured is the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) laying on a book with seven seals and holding a military standard inscribed with a red cross. Christ symbolized by the "Lamb of God" comes from John 1:29 (NIV), "The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.' " The standard inscribed with a red cross symbolizes Christ's victory over death and sin. The "Lamb of God" laying on a book with seven seals comes from Revelation Chapters 5 - 8. This concerns events that will take place at the second coming of Christ. A book with seven seals will be opened by the "Lamb of God." Most memorable are the first four seals that when opened, unleash the four horseman of the Apocalypse.
Accoring to Church records, this window was dedicated in 1947 to honor those who served in the Armed Forces.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
