Window
Building Name: Lincoln Community United Methodist ChurchCity: Ypsilanti
Subject/Title of Window: Church
Brief Description of Subject: One of five side windows who represent, together with the Clerestory window above the pupil, “God is the Light of the World.” This window represents a child before birth, who walks in the dark. After birth it will be baptized and made a member in Christ of the Church. At the bottom of the window are Helping Hands, Scales of Justice, and a Heart. This represents the Child spreading his light as he grows by doing good (helping hands), being just (scales), and being charitable (heart). As well, a large sailing boat represents propagation of God’s light by the Church community. The boat’s sail circumvents the womb in the upper part of the window, the child and birth process representing the continuous action for the Church. At the top of the window is the star, Christ, by which the ship is steered. Among relevant passages: II Corinthians 4:6, Ephesians 5:14, I Peter 2:9

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
