Brief Description of Subject: Left top: Winged Man (Matthew)-This symbolizes Matthew, the writer of the gospel, as one of the living creatures from Ezekiel’s vision. Ezekiel 1:5ff and Revelation: 4:7 Left bottom: Three Money Bags (Matthew)-Matthew 9:9ff and Luke 5:27ff Right top: Building Stones and Carpenter’s Square (Thomas)-Thomas believed to have built prodigiously while preaching in India. Right bottom: Spears (Thomas)-Tradition says Thomas was martyred at the hand of King Midsai because of the conversion of the king’s wife to Christianity. The spears suggest the weapons of his death. Top Cross: Maltese Cross-The eight pints, two at the end of each arm, represent the Beatitudes. Matthew 5.
