Subject/Title of Window: Pieta

Brief Description of Subject: The Pieta (pity) is the last of seven windows on the Epistle side of the Church. Each features one of the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
 
The devotion to the Seven Sorrows of Mary dates to the 13th Century with the seven men that founded the Servite Order. Although Mary suffered more than seven sorrows, the seven they selected has become fairly standard.
 
The Pieta is not found in scriptures, rather it grew out of the Lamentation of Christ. Specifically the Pieta is the cradling of the lifeless body of the crucified Christ by his grieving mother.
