Subject/Title of Window: Mary Meets Jesus On the Way to Calvary

Brief Description of Subject: Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary is the 5th of Seven windows on the Epistle side of the Church. Each features one of the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
 
The devotion to the Seven Sorrows of Mary dates to the 13th Century with the seven men that founded the Servite Order. Although Mary suffered more than seven sorrows, the seven they chose became fairly standard.
 
Although not found in the Bible, Mary meets Jesus on the way to Calvary is a popular subject in Art as it is also the 4th Station of the Cross.
 
Pictured is a grieving Mary helplessly watching her son go by as he bears his cross on the way to his crucifixion. The artist has colored the cross green, symbolizing life --- 1 Thessalonians 5:9 - 10 "Our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we might live with him." (RSVCE)
