Brief Description of Subject: The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem is the third of seven windows on the Epistle side of the Church. Each features one of the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
The devotion of the Seven Sorrows of Mary dates to the 13th Century with the seven men that founded the Servite Order. Although Mary suffered more than seven sorrows, the seven they chose has become fairly standard.
The Holy Family had gone to Jerusalem for the Passover and on the way back they discovered their son was nowhere to be found.
Pictured is Mary and Joseph distraught over the disappearance of their son.
