Fish in Water: A "fish in water" was an early symbol for Baptism. Tertullian (c.155 - c. 200  writing in Chapter 1 of his treatise "On Baptism": (paraphrasing), Like a fish cannot live out of water, we cannot live without the water of Baptism.
Eight Pointed Star, known as the Redemption Star: The number eight's association with baptism comes from 1 Peter 3:20-21, "... God's patience waited in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is eight persons, were saved through water. Baptism which corresponds to this, now saves you." (RSVCE). For this reason, baptismal fonts are traditionally in the shape of an octagon.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact
