Subject/Title of Window: Confirmation, Last Supper, Baptism

Brief Description of Subject: The left portion of this window pictures the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation --- the bishop and the sponsor are seen laying hands on the one being confirmed. The bishop pictured here is Archbishop of Detroit, and later Cardinal, Edward Mooney. The origin of the Sacrament of Confirmation is found in Acts 8:14 - 17, "Now ... Peter and John ... prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on them, but they had been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit."

The middle portion comes from the Last Supper with the 12 Apostles. The artist has depicted Jesus instituting the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist --- Mark 14:23 - 24, "And he took a cup, and when he gave thanks he gave it to them to drink. And said to them, 'This is my blood of the Covenant, which is poured for many.' " Two of the Apostles can be identified on the window. John is the Apostle leaning his head on Christ --- John 12:23, "one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved [John], was lying close to the breast of Jesus." Judas Iscariot is the Apostle counting the money --- John 13:29, "Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him, 'Buy what we need for the feast.' "

The right portion of this window depicts the administration of the Sacrament of Baptism. The priest pictured here is the much beloved founder and Pastor of this Church, Father Clare Murphy. He was Pastor from 1947 to his death in 1963. The institution of the Sacrament of Baptism by Christ, is found in Matthew 29:19, The Great Commissioning, "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
