Brief Description of Subject: This is the second of three windows, located high up on the epistle side of the sanctuary, that symbolizes the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Pictured here are a chalice, and a host on a paten.
The chalice is the most sacred vessel, and is lined with gold. It will hold the wine that becomes the Blood of Christ used in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
The paten is a plate of gold which fits on the top of the chalice. It is a place for the host to rest on. The host will become the Body of Christ used in the Sacrament of Communion.
This window was designed by Margaret Bouchez Cavanaugh when she worked at the Detroit Stained Glass Works.
