Subject/Title of Window: Holy Communion #3
Brief Description of Subject: This is the last of three windows, located high up on the epistle side of the sanctuary, that symbolizes the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Pictured here are loaves of bread and fish. This refers to Christ's miracle of the Feeding of the Five Thousand which is a foreshadowing of the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper.
In Matthew's version of the miracle "taking the five loaves ... he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave them to the Apostles." (Matthew 14:19)
Note the almost identical wording in Christ's institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper, "He took bread, said the blessing, broke it and gave it to the disciples." (Matthew 26:26)
This window was designed by Margaret Bouchez Cavanaugh when she worked at the Detroit Stained Glass Works.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
