Subject/Title of Window: The Parable of The Ten Virgins and the Parable of the Talents

Brief Description of Subject: The aisle windows illuminate Christ's words from the Gospels. This aisle window is located on the north side.

Top Scene: Matthew 25:1-13 The Parable of the Ten Virgins.

Christ uses a parable to make the point to be prepared for the Last Judgement as you will not know the day or the hour of its coming. Ten virgins were tasked to go out and light the way for the bridegroom when he arrives. When he arrived late at night, five were prepared for this as they had oil for their lamps, but five did not, and went out to purchase oil. By the time they had some, they were late for the banquet and the door was locked and they were not allowed in.

Bottom Scene: Matthew 15:14 - 30 The Parable of the Talents

Christ uses a parable to make the point that God has given us all gifts, some more than others, but all of us are expected to make use of those talents. A master is going away and gives five talents to one servant, two to another, and one to the last. When the master returned he found the one with five talents had doubled that amount, the one with two had also doubled what he was given. The one who was given only one talent had dug a hole and buried his talent and simply returned it to his master. The master was furious with him and had him thrown "unto the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Verse 30).

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
