Subject/Title of Window: Watchful Slaves and The Necessity of Watchfulness

Brief Description of Subject: The aisle windows illuminate Christ's words from the Gospels. This aisle window is located on the north side.

Top Scene: Watchful Slaves Luke 12:37 - 38 (in capitals below)

Christ uses this parable to make a point about His second coming (Last Judgement). Luke 12:35 - 38 NRSVCE --- "Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master's return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks. BLESSED ARE THOSE SLAVES WHOM THE MASTER FINDS ALERT WHEN HE COMES; TRULY I TELL YOU, HE WILL FASTEN HIS BELT AND HAVE THEM SIT DOWN AND EAT, AND HE WILL COME AND SERVE THEM. IF HE COMES DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, OR NEAR DAWN, AND FINDS THEM SO, BLESSED ARE THESES SLAVES."

Bottom Scene: The Necessity of Watchfulness Matthew 24:42 - 44 (in capitals below)

Christ uses this parable to make a point about his second coming (Last Judgement). Matthew 24:36 - 44 NRSVCE --- "But about the day and hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father ... BUT UNDERSTAND THIS; IF THE OWNER OF THE HOUSE HAD KNOWN IN WHAT PART OF THE NIGHT THE THIEF WAS COMING, HE WOULD HAVE STAYED AWAKE, AND WOULD NOT HAVE LET HIS HOUSE BE BROKEN INTO. Therefore you must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour."

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
