Brief Description of Subject: The aisle windows illuminate Christ's words from the Gospels. This aisle window is located on the north side.

Top Scene: Parable of the Unmerciful Servant, Matthew 18:23 - 35

Christ told this parable in response to Peter's question, "If I want to get to heaven, must I forgive my brother when he has wronged me."

"The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves." One of those slaves could not pay his debt and the lord ordered him, his wife and children to be sold to pay the debt. The man pleaded with the king to give him more time to pay the debt. The king took pity on him and forgave his entire debt. That slave then went out and found a slave that owed him money. That slave pleaded for more time to pay his debt but was given no mercy and thrown into prison until his debt was paid. When the lord heard of this he was furious with the slave for not forgiving that man's debt. Verses 34 - 35 "In anger his lord handed him over to be tortured until he would pay his entire debt. So my heavenly Father will also do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother or sister from your heart."

Bottom Scene: The Parable of the Good Samaritan. Luke 10:30 - 37.

Christ told this parable in response to a lawyer who tested Him with the question, "I know to gain eternal life I must follow the written law that says, 'You must love the Lord and God with all your heart ... and your neighbor as yourself, but who is my neighbor?" Luke 10:27 - 29 NRSVCE

A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and was accosted by robbers who beat him and left him for dead. A priest and a Levite [a member of the priestly tribe of Levi], saw him and passed him by. But when a Samaritan [they were despised as heretics] saw him, he took pity on him and stopped to take care of him. Verses 26 - 37, "Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers? The lawyer answered, 'The one who showed him mercy.' Jesus said to him, 'Go and do likewise.' "

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
