Subject/Title of Window: The Parable of the Wedding Banquet and The Narrow Door

Brief Description of Subject: The aisle windows illuminate Christ's words from the Gospels. This aisle window is located on the south side. All quotes are from the NRSVCE bible.

Top Scene: The Parable of the Wedding Banquet. Matthew 22:2 - 14. Illuminated words are in capitals.

"The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come." He gave those invited a second chance to come but they refused, some even mistreating the messengers. "The king was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his slaves, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore into the main streets, and invite everyone you find to the banquet.' Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both good and bad; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.

BUT WHEN THE KING CAME IN TO SEE THE GUESTS, HE NOTICED A MAN THERE WHO WAS NOT WEARING A WEDDING ROBE, and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a robe?' And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' For many are called, but few are chosen."

Bottom Scene: The Narrow Door. Luke 13:22 - 30. Illuminated words in capitals.

"Jesus went through one town and village after another, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, 'Lord, will only a few be saved?' He said to them, 'STRIVE TO ENTER THROUGH THE NARROW DOOR; FOR MANY, I TELL YOU, WILL TRY TO ENTER AND NOT BE ABLE.' When once the owner of the house has got up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, open to us,' then in reply he will say to you, 'I do not know where you come from.' Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' But he will say, 'I do not know where you come from; go away from me, all you evil doers!' There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you SEE ABRAHAM AND ISAAC AND JACOB and all the prophets in the kingdom of the God, and you yourselves thrown out. Then people will come from east and west, from north and south, and will eat in the kingdom of God. Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
