Subject/Title of Window: Three Symbols

Brief Description of Subject: This window, located in the ambulatory, consists of three scenes, each picturing a symbol. Quotes from the NRSVCE Bible.

Top Scene: A kettle containing live coals. This is a symbol for spiritual purification, forgiveness of sin. This comes from Isaiah 6:5 - 7, In a vision, Isaiah had seen the Lord which is forbidden, " 'Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, ... yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!' Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongues. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: 'Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.' "

Middle Scene: Seven knives. Unidentified symbol.

Scene 3: The sun. A symbol for Christ which comes from Malachi 4:2, "But for you who revere my name the sun of righteous shall rise, with healing in its wings."

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
