Subject/Title of Window: The Carrying of the Cross

Brief Description of Subject: This is one of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. The book from the May 18, 1930 dedication of the new church has a number of large photos of the interior and exterior of the church. In these photos it can be seen that there were no stained glass windows installed at the time of the church opening and dedication. Close up views of the exterior photos show that a plain ripple patterned glass was in all the windows. In one of the interior photos of the altar a stained glass window can be seen on the east side of the sanctuary. A close examination of this photo shows that it is not the same window that is in this location today. It depicts a scene of the Annunciation and is of a style similar to that of the Alfred Wrobbel paintings in other areas of the church. The current windows use a different decorative style that does not resemble these paintings. No information has been found as to the source of this window or why it had been removed. No mention of it is made in the dedication book. The only mention of the windows in the book is a list of the donors of the yet to be installed windows. The current window, The Carrying of the Cross, from Tyrolese Art Glass Co., was installed in 1931. The current window of the Annunciation is on the west side of the nave and came from Detroit Stained Glass Works around 1945. It does not resemble the original window.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
