Subject/Title of Window: Resurrection

Brief Description of Subject: The scriptures do not cover the actual Resurrection scene, rather it begins with the discovery of the open tomb. Thus artists are given a wide latitude in how to portray the Resurrection, however there was a period of time the Catholic Church discouraged the depictions of Christ hovering in the air -- feet had to be on the ground as presented here. The two angels that are depicted guarding the tomb comes from the Old Testament where two cherubim angels were assigned to guard the Ark of the Covenant.

Comments from "Our Stained Glass Windows" c. 1970 " two angels guard the tomb while from it, with full vigor, the figure of the Lord emerges. Both panels tell the story of the Resurrection with due power and life as well as with dignity and strength."

The logo at the bottom of the right panel contains the maker as well as the date installed.

These are the first two of a battery of 12 windows located along the wall of the Gospel side aisle. Comments from "Our Stained Glass Windows" by Aloys Frank Herman c.1970. These windows tell the progressive story of “Our Lord from his Resurrection to the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles”.

These windows were designed by Jonathan Edwards as a free lance job for Willet Hauser Architectural Glass and installed in 1967.

Jonathan Edwards worked for Celtic Studios as a designer and glass painter. He also worked freelance for other studios and taught at Swansea College in Wales until the 1990's. His work is found mostly in churches across south Wales but can also be found in Canada and the United States.
