Brief Description of Subject: From Faith in Stained Glass Saint Andrew Church booklet by Michael Bell, published August 15, 1976.
To Instruct the Ignorant-Boniface. Boniface was sent from a monastery to work as a missionary in the area of Gaul (modern France) and Germany. He remained there for the rest of his life converting the various tribes of the region. He organized the infant church with a series of local councils which he convoked by his episcopal authority. Boiniface continued his work as Archbishop of Mainz until his murder by several local chieftans. The window depicts Boniface in the vestments of a Bishop (although they are in a later style than the period in which he lived) standing beneath an oak tree. The oak tree was sacred to the Teutonic god, Donar (god of thunder). Boniface boldy and publicly chopped down this tree and is said to have won many converts when it was realized that Donas could not even protect his own sanctuary. Boniface is the patron of Germany.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
