Brief Description of Subject: This window was installed in what was originally named the "Prayer Chapel." After the retirement of Pastor Arnold F. Runkel, it was renamed in his honor as the "Runkel Chapel."

The following description from the book, "The Windows and Symbols of First Methodist Church Birmingham, Mich. edited by Dr. Arnold F. Runkel and privately published by the Church for its members in 1966.

CHAPEL SIDE WINDOWS --- PRAYER

This window illustrates prayers from Acts of the Apostles. At the top is Cornelius, a centurion and a Gentile, in prayer. Peter is shown on the rooftop. He sees a vision of unclean animals let down from heaven in a sheet, symbolizing the fact that baptism was to be brought to Gentile as well as Jew. In the center Paul dreamsof the Macedonian who beseeched: 'Come over into Macedonia and help us.' At the bottom, [Peter is praying to raise up Dorcas, (Tabitha in Aramaic). Acts 9:40 NIV, "He got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, 'Tabitha, get up.' She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up."] The symbol at the top is the descending dove of the Holy Spirit.

This third aisle window was presented in memory of Vinal J. Snyder by his wife.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
