Subject/Title of Window: Blessed are Those Who Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness for They Shall Be Satisfied
Brief Description of Subject: This is the most demanding of all the beatitudes.
In Jesus’s day hunger was very real-many of the poorer working class lived but one day away from starvation. Thirst, too was very realistic. Water was extremely hard to get, and therefore considered a precious commodity. We know so little of real hunger and thirst in our times.
To “hunger and thirst” for the nature of God is to feel the need of Him—as one dying of hunger and thirst feels the need for food and water. No other source can fill this need.
Blessed is the word used to describe God’s graciousness. His supply is adequate and it is available. He will not send anyone away empty. But this “Blessed” is not for the casual, half caring one; rather it is meant for the desperately hungry and thirsty.
William Lowd described the situation this way: All that is in the World is empty cups- they will not quench our thirst. But when you have dipped your pitcher into the well of God, you will be abundantly satisfied.
God’s supply is a flowing, unfailing stream. He provided it so that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask to think.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
