Building Name: Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church

City: Southgate

Window Shape: 2 (rectangle)

Subject/Title of Window: The Nativity Window

Brief Description of Subject: The birth of Jesus is depicted by the star whose rays light up the manger which is placed in a nimbus of light. The rays of the star also shine to the sides of the window indicating that Christ was born for the salvation of all people and his light is that light by which we walk. From the manger a ribbon of brown depicts the road on which Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt as exile escaping the treacherous hand of the murderous Herod. The flowering lily is Mary’s symbol: the budding rod symbols Joseph who was of Jesse’s rod. Isiah 11:1. The cloud over the road and the quarter moon indicate that the flight took place at night. The land of Egypt is suggested by the pyramids and the palm trees.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
