Subject/Title of Window: The Ministry of Christ
Brief Description of Subject: Window Four. The first depiction at the top of the window is that of the well outside the city of Sychar in Samaria, where Jesus promised to give to the woman of Samaria the water which is a spring of water welling up to eternal lie (John 4:1-30). The four fish enclosed in the net depict the miraculous catch of fish, after which occurrence Jesus told Simon Peter, “Henceforth you will be catching men:” (Luke 5:1-11). The two fish and the five loaves of bread remind us of the feeding of the thousands by Jesus, who is the bread of life which we eat, to live forever (John 6). The burst of light is the healing power from the hand and touch of our Lord. The crutches indicate Jesus’s power over all infirmities. The praying hands symbolize the lily recall Jesus’s message in the Sermon on the Mount: Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, yet the heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these (Matthew 6:26, 28,29).
