Brief Description of Subject: This window, located in the gathering room which once served as the baptistry, illuminates the Sacrament of Baptism using figurative symbols.

The Descending Dove: Its association with baptism stems from Matthew 3:16, "And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove." (RSVCE). At baptism one receives the seven gifts of the Spirit of God.

Eight Pointed Star, known as the Redemption Star: The number eight's association with baptism comes from 1 Peter 3:20-21, "... God's patience waited in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is eight persons, were saved through water. Baptism which corresponds to this, now saves you." (RSVCE). For this reason, baptismal fonts are traditionally in the shape of an octagon.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
