Subject/Title of Window: The Virtuous Woman

Brief Description of Subject: The title of this window comes from verse ten of Proverbs 31 (KJV) --- "Who can find a virtuous woman?" The remainder of this Proverb then gives attributes of such a woman. The artist has used selective verses to illustrate the virtuous woman.

Verse 18: "She sees that ... her lamp does not go out at night." (servant in right lancet filling an oil lamp)

Verse 19: "In her hand she holds the distaff." (object in left hand used for spinning)

Verse 20: "She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy." (giving food to poor children)

Verse 28: "HER CHILDREN ARISE UP AND CALL HER BLESSED; Her husband also, and he praise her." (husband in right lancet with hand on daughter's shoulder)

Verse 31: "Give her the reward she has earned, and let her work bring her praise at the city gate." (reward on earth --- crowned with a laurel wreath; reward in heaven --- crown in canopy)
