Brief Description of Subject: One of the eight Beatitudes: Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice sake for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven is represented by a sword with rays and a laurel leaf. In symbolism the sword normally indicates martyrdom as does the laurel leaf.
