Subject/Title of Window: Christ, King of Judgement

Brief Description of Subject: The transept and facade windows feature the Christian doctrine of Jesus Christ as written in the Nicene Creed. This window, located in the facade, covers, "We believe ... Jesus ... ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end."

The description of this window is mostly based on the Church's Stained Glass Tour presented on April 28, 1985.

This three lancet window is placed the highest in the church and is over the main entrance. The theme is Christ, the King of Judgement. Its placement over the main entrance is apropos as Last Judgement scenes in relief sculpture were typically found in the tympanum over the main portal in Medieval Cathedrals --- a reminder that the Day of Judgement will come to all.

Christ is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. He is seated on the throne of heaven and has a tri-radiant nimbus. His crown represents Christ as Lord and King and expresses the fact we have eternal life through him as well. In his left hand he is holding a Chi Rho Cross, a monogram consisting of the first two Greek letters in the name of "Christ." Also in his left hand is a book. This is the "Book of Life" as recorded in Revelation 20:12, "And I saw the dead great and small before the throne ... and a book was opened which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books." Christ's threefold office as prophet, priest, and king is represented by the long robe, purple stole, and jeweled crown.

This window was designed by Edward Glubka.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
