Subject/Title of Window: Crown of Thorns/INRI

Brief Description of Subject: All of the aisle windows consist of three lancets which were designed to let light into the Church. Each contains a shield with a Christian symbol.

This shield features symbols of the Passion --- the crown of thorns and Latin capital letters "INRI." The Crown of thorns is found in Matthew 27:29 KJV "And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand, they bowed before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!" INRI is an acronym for the words Pilate had put on the cross --- (I)esus (N)azarenus, (R)ex (I)udaeorum (John 19:19 Vulgate). In English this is "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews."
