The star shines down upon the stable, touching the roof with gold. The gold of the star is repeated in Mary's halo and in the mantle wrapped about her. Joseph, with staff in hand, stands in the background. A lamb stands near the manger, symbolic of the "Lamb of God who has come to take away the sins of the world."
