Subject/Title of Window: Casting Lots for the Garments

Brief Description of Subject: "When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier. But his tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom; so they said to one another, 'Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.' ... So the soldiers did this; but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas and Mary Magdalene." John 19

The soldiers, omitted from the Crucifixion scene, are shown here in a game of dice - the winner to have the tunic of the Son of God, who at the moment is dying on the cross.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
