Brief Description of Subject: From "Welcome to the Kirk."
The beautiful cloister of the Kirk - a faithful replica of the Cloister at Melrose Abbey - was built onto the southern exterior of the original mansion to provide indoor passage for parents who bring their children to Sunday School.

Each of the seven bays of the Coister contain stained glass medallions of three men who have made some worthy contribution to the Christian life of the world. These twenty-one men reflect the ecumenical spirit of the Kirk, and their portraits appear in the following order from the Narthex towards the Kirk House: John Wycliffe, St. Augustine, Savonarola, Thomas a Kempis, John Milton, John Bunyan, John Huss, David Livingstone, Sir Wilfred Grenfel, Roger Williams, John Wesley, William Booth, Dwight Moody, St. Francis of Assisi, Philips Brooks, John Montieth, Jonathan Edwards, John Witherspoon, Martin Luther, John Knox and John Calvin. These medallions and the Tower windows, are the work of the Detroit Stained Glass Works. A cloakroom opens off the north side of the Cloister; and its window contains medallions of the Great Seal of the U.S., George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
