Brief Description of Subject: Red gown with yellow over garment, holding a book in left hand and quill in right hand.

A son of Alphaeus, Matthew lived in Capharnaum on the Sea of Galilee. He was a tax collector when he became a disciple of Jesus. After Pentecost, Matthew conducted his evangelism in Judea. He may also have preached in Ethiopia and lands in the East. Matthew is the author of the Gospel named after him.

He is the patron saint of stock brokers, money managers, financial officers, tax collectors, bankers, accountants, custom officials, guards, and security forces.

The quill with book represents an evangelist.
