Brief Description of Subject: Robed in purple with gold stole, holding open book in left hand and quill in right hand.

St. Mark is the son of Mary of Jerusalem. He is believed to be the young man who ran away when Jesus was arrested. He traveled to Rome with Peter, who referred to him as "my son Mar,." Mark is the author of the gospel named for him. He preached with St. Barnabas and St. Paul in Cyprus, evangelized in Alexandria and established the Church of Egypt. Mark was martyred on April 25, 68 A.D. in Alexandria.

He is the patron saint of notaries, glaziers, stained glass workers and prisoners.

The quill with book represents an evangelist.
