The following description from the book, "The Windows and Symbols of First Methodist Church Birmingham, Mich. edited by Dr. Arnold F. Runkel and privately published by the Church for its members in 1966.

CHAPEL SIDE WINDOWS --- PRAYER

The second of the Chapel Side Windows illustrates prayers of Christ. At the top, our Lord responds to the Disciples' request, 'Lord, Teach us to pray,' with the Lord's prayer. Christ's parable of the arrogant Pharisee and the humble publican is interpreted in the center of the window. At the bottom, Christ is praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, surrendering completely to his Father's will: 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou will.' The three Disciples have fallen asleep waiting for Christ to return from the Garden. At the top are hands folded in prayer.

This second aisle window is in memory of Wilson Wagner, presented by family and friends.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
