THE CHILDREN'S CHAPEL WINDOWS

The windows in the Children's Chapel portray Old and New Testament scenes of children of the Bible: the Boy Jesus, Samuel, Timothy, Mark, the captive Israelite maid, and other children of various nationalities.

The medallion at the top of the left window symbolizes the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. Among the multitude of weary and hungry people who had followed Jesus, was a boy named Mark, who had five loaves and two fishes. Jesus took them from the boy, and after giving thanks, was able to feed all 5,000 gathered there with them. (JOHN 6:6 - 13). [Only the Gospel of John states that a boy had five loaves and two fishes. The name of the boy however is not given. Possible the inscription should have been "John" instead of "Mark" to indicate the Gospel of John's version of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes was used.]

The oval medallion in the left window shows the boy Jesus in the carpenter shop with his earthly father, Joseph.

Samuel, the temple lad, is pictured in the predella in the left window. Awakened by a voice calling him and finally recognizing it as the voice of the Lord, he answers, 'Speak, for the servant heareth.' (1 SAMUEL 3:1 -10)

The windows in the Children's Chapel, presented by Mr. Clay Doss, are in memory of his son.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
