Subject/Title of Window: Mary Crowned Queen/Christ Enters Jerusalem as King

Brief Description of Subject: Window Description: Top lens contains an angel with a shield with the monogram  AM constructed in such a way that you can form all of the letters in the name "MARIA" as well as its Hebrew spelling "MIRIAM". In the lens to the left I was not able to identify the object. In the lens to the right is a priest's garment called a "stole". The large lens below contains a picture of the coronation of Mary in heaven. It shows a sitting Mary being crowned by Christ. Above them is a descending dove (Holy Spirit) and below them is an angel. Next lens down is a picture of St. Frances Cabrini. She is shown with her attributes  -- costumed in a nun's habit with a cross necklace. I do not know what object she has in her hands. Next lens down is a picture of Christ entering Jerusalem. Jesus is seen atop a donkey and holding a palm branch. The multitudes are behind him and the city of Jerusalem is seen in the background. The hexagon at the bottom contains a crown and palm fronds. The lens to the left an unidentified object with the Greek letters Alpha and Omega. The lens to the right contains a cross.

Background: Mary Crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth is the 5th  Glorious Mystery of the Rosary. It is not covered in scriptures but has been a Catholic tradition since the 12th century. Since it is not covered in scriptures, artists are left to their imaginations as to how to present it. Saint Francis Cabrini (1850 - 1917) Italian by birth is the first American to become a saint. She was canonized in 1946. She joined the congregation of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. She was sent to America to tend to the needs of Italian immigrants founding many orphanages and hospitals. She became a U.S. citizen and died in Chicago.  Jesus entry into Jerusalem is covered in Matt. 21: 1-11 and is celebrated on what is now called "Palm Sunday". Paraphrasing Matthew --- Matthew says that this fulfills the Old Testament prophecy of Zachariah "Rejoice people of Zion, Shout in triumph people of Jerusalem, Look your King is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious yet he is humble, riding on a donkey." As Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey the multitudes cut down palm branches and spread them on the road and shouted "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest."

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
