Brief Description of Subject: The medallion in the center of this rose window has Christ with the Crown of Thorns on his head. This pose is known as the "Sorrowful Christ". Depictions of the "Sorrowful Christ" are popular in Poland as this resonates with the suffering the Polish people have endured throughout its history. Surrounding the image you will find grapes and grape leaves --- these are symbolic of many things, for this window, it probably symbolizes the blood of Christ as during the Last Supper wine was changed into the Blood of Christ.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
