Window
Building Name: Congregation Shaarey ZedekArtist Name: Robert Pinart
City: Southfield
Window Shape: 2 (rectangle)
Date of Window: 1962
Subject/Title of Window: Burning Bush
Brief Description of Subject: A quote from the blogspot "Tilesinnewyork" which apples to this window:
"Many of Pinart's abstract expressionist liturgical commissions illustrate a concept of ascendance, a sense of flowing upwards to commune with the divine. The colors used in the piece as a whole, the shapes of the cut glass pieces, as well as of the whole window, and its position within the room, and especially light, all contribute to this concept."
The overall shape of the window is thought to represent Mt. Sinai where Moses received the 10 Commandments.
The top panels evoke the flames of the burning bush found in the book of Exodus where God convinces a reluctant Moses to be His instrument to free the Jews from slavery in Egypt and lead them to the land of milk and honey.
Note: Starting at the bottom, the first nine panels of the left side are mirror images of those on the right side.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
