Brief Description of Subject: St. Cecilia was a young Roman maiden of a good family. She made a vow to remain a virgin all her life. Her father, however, had other ideas and forced her to marry a young man who was not a Christian. On their wedding night Cecilia told him of her vow and eventually persuaded him to become a Christian and respect her pledge. Legend has it that on her wedding day heavenly pipes played. These pipers were later misunderstood to be organ pipes. In the fifteenth century she was declared patroness of church musicians. Her window is probably in honor of the church organist at the time and the church choir.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
