Building Name: St. Albertus Church

Studio Name: Williams Art Glass Studio

City: Detroit

Window Shape: 6 (gothic arched, more than 2 vertical sections)

Subject/Title of Window: Non-Figural

Brief Description of Subject: This non-figural window is designed to let light into the Church. The choir loft blocks part of the view of this window so a photograph of the entire window is not possible.

Inside the medallion of the octofoil at the top of the window is a CROSS with a CROWN OF THORNS (Crucifixion) and an ANCHOR (hope for those who believe in Christ). Next to the cross is a CHALICE and HOST (Eucharist). Above the cross is a banner with the inscription IN HOC SIGNO VINCES --- legend has Constantine about to go into a big battle and he prays that whoever is the true God to help him; he then sees a shield in the sky with a cross and that inscription; Constantine won the battle and made Christianity the religion of the Roman Empire.

The banners in the bottom portion of this window designate the donor.

Inscriptions: IN HOC SIGNO VINCES (In this sign you shall conquer)
Donated by Jacob J. Audretsch

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
