Brief Description of Subject: First of seven panels by Dirk Thompson III that are designed to let light into the choir and to be consistent in design with the nave windows.
The medallion in the center uses the main attribute for the gospel writer Matthew -- a winged human. This symbol comes from Ezekiel 1:5-14 where there appears a creature with 4 wings and 4 faces -- a human, an ox, a lion, and an eagle; likewise in Rev. 4:5-8 four living winged creatures surround the throne -- a human, an ox, a lion and an eagle. Early Christianity matched these with the four Evangelists. Matthew became the HUMAN WITH WINGS as his gospel begins with the ancestry of Christ --- his human side.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
