StudioThompson Art Glass
Brighton, Michigan
Biography: Thompson Art Glass Studios Inc. was originally know as Thompson Glass Co. It was founded in 1929 by Dirk Thompson Sr., who as a young man, served his apprenticeship and learned his craft in Amsterdam, Holland. Forced to emigrate to the "new world" because of German aggression in the early 1920's, He started his new venture in a small garage in Detroit. He was soon joined by his sons and daughter, who participated in shopwork, officework and sales. The business prospered and grew during the post war boom in church and homebuilding in the Detroit area, and was forced to relocate and expand several times. The company was renamed and reorganized in 1989 to emphasize the artistic and custom approach to it's products and services. Stained and leaded glass has remained a very popular accent to homes, public buildings and churches. Thompson Art Glass currently occupies a beautifully refurbished 140 year old historic former church in Brighton, Michigan.
